Personal Training
one-to-one resistance training focus for those in cardiac secondary prevention

Following an initial assessment a program will be created focussing on strength and endurance goals.

Resistance training is a fundamental column in an individuals health and wellness, among its benefits in the cardiac community is that it can improve exercise/activity tolerance where longer cardio or aerobic classes are not possible.

SUB-MAX EXERCISE ASSESSMENTS

Functional capacity tests with a written summary of your current levels of fitness, comparisons to your demographic. Includes other observations and advice.

Examples of the kinds of methods we use are listed below.

This mode involves a few minutes (usually around 6-10 mins excluding a warm and cool phase). Once it has been deemed appropriate to safely exercise you will be fitted with a HR monitor and observed during a staged test. Each 2 minutes resistance is added whilst you pedal at a set pace.

All tests allow for comparison to previous tests, demographics and help in exercise prescriptions

Cycle Erg

This mode requires some level of pacing and co-ordination as you will be asked to follow the beat of a metronome. Again, this assessment will require a steady increase in demand each 2 minutes. Your Heart Rate (HR) will be tracked during the test which will last no more than 10 minutes.

All tests allow for comparison to previous tests, demographics and help in exercise prescriptions

Chester Step Test (CST)

This  particular mode is better suited to those who have been out of the rhythm for some time and currently have limited amounts of activity, for example household mostly. Seats are placed 10 metres apart and you are asked to walk between these as much as you feel comfortable to manage over the course of the 6 minutes. If you need to rest at any stage you can take a seat. At the end of the test distance covered will be recorded and heart rates will be tracked.

All tests allow for comparison to previous tests, demographics and help in exercise prescriptions
